Two people have died after a vehicle was found upside down in a body of water on Makara Road this morning.

Police said they were called at about 8.05am after reports of the vehicle in the water. On arrival, officers found two people deceased inside.

Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing. Police have not released further details about the occupants or the vehicle.

Makara Road was closed while a scene examination took place and has since reopened. Dispatch Desk will update this story as more information is provided.
