Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo will visit this week for talks focused on climate, regional priorities and development, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has announced.

“We share a warm and close partnership with Tuvalu, underpinned by strong development, cultural, economic, and people to people links,” Luxon said. “I look forward to discussing how we can deliver on our shared ambitions and regional priorities, and hearing about the Pre-COP31 Leaders’ Event Tuvalu is hosting in October.”

While here, Teo will meet Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters, Pacific Peoples Minister Dr Shane Reti and Climate Change Minister Simon Watts. He is also scheduled to attend community events and engage with the Tuvaluan diaspora.

The visit comes against the backdrop of a long-standing development partnership that includes support for education, health, economic development and coastal resilience. With Tuvalu hosting a pre-COP31 leaders’ event later this year, climate policy and regional coordination are expected to feature prominently in discussions.

It will be Teo’s first official visit since he was elected in 2024. He will be accompanied by Tuvalu Foreign Minister Paulson Panapa and Minister for Transport, Energy, Communication and Innovation Simon Kofe.
