Parents can now view what their children are expected to learn across every year level from Year 0 to Year 10 on the Ministry of Education’s Parent Portal, which has been updated to include all learning areas of the refreshed “knowledge-rich” curriculum — including draft sections.

Education Minister Erica Stanford said the update is aimed at giving families a clear view of what’s taught and how they can support it at home. “We’re making sure there’s clarity at home, too,” she said.

The Ministry will start adding at-home activities over summer. First up is a free, curriculum-aligned online maths practice tool for children in Years 3 to 8, available from next Tuesday. It will cover basic facts, fractions, rounding, money, place value, counting patterns, square numbers and word problems. More topics are due in January.

The portal is an interactive reference that lets parents see, by year level, what’s in the proposed new curriculum. Some areas remain in draft, and consultation on the Year 0–10 learning areas is currently open.

The Parent Portal is available at education.govt.nz/parents-and-caregivers/schools-year-0-13/parent-portal.
