Police say an investigation into a stolen Bentley Bentayga has led to the recovery of five stolen vehicles and a loaded shotgun found under a child’s bed.

Waitematā East’s Tactical Crime Unit began looking into a burglary in the early hours of 1 December, when keys were taken from a North Shore home and the Bentley driven away. The vehicle contained several items, including a handbag and bank cards.

The inquiry led officers to a Glen Eden address last week, where they located four stolen vehicles. Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Williams said a loaded shotgun was discovered hidden under a bed where a young boy was sleeping. Police seized the firearm and arrested a 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman.

No Bentley was found at that property. Further inquiries took police to Huia late last week, where the Bentley was recovered.

The arrested pair have been charged with dishonesty offences relating to the alleged use of stolen credit cards, and unlawful possession of a firearm. They have appeared in the Waitākere District Court and are due to reappear in March.

Police say the investigation into the burglary and theft is ongoing and further arrests are possible.
