Police will join Hawke’s Bay Special Olympics athletes on Saturday 1 November to carry the Flame of Hope in Napier, part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run ahead of the National Summer Special Olympics Games.

Athletes, supporters and Police are assembling at Anderson Park, Auckland Road carpark, before a 1pm start. Media are invited to attend for photos and interviews with participants.

Known as “Guardians of the Flame,” Police will run alongside local athletes to help build support for the Games. “Lighting the Flame of Hope means that the games are just around the corner,” Special Olympics chief executive Fran Scholey said.

The New Zealand Law Enforcement Torch Run began in Northland on 4 October and is making its way south through the country.
